Maureen Cleary

Governance & Management (formerly the Nonprofit Governance & Management Centre) now provides specialist governance training and consultancy services to religious organisations in Australia and overseas. These services include board member training in roles and responsibilities, development of tailored governance policies, advice on organisational structures and change management. We have particular skills in facilitation of meetings, assemblies and organisational processes. Clients include organisations of the Catholic Church (diocesan and religious institutes), Anglican Church and the Uniting Church.

The Consulting Services of Governance & Management assist board members and executive management in a variety of ways. Our services are carried out in a way that is mission-focused, adaptive to the particular organisational context, flexible and consultative. These services include:

Governance & Management's CEO and Principal Consultant, Maureen Cleary, specialises in working with Church, community and nonprofit organisations. She works extensively with Religious Institutes, dioceses and state and national religious organisations. Over the last five years she has facilitated two processes of reconfiguration that involved eight different Religious Institutes. She has also facilitated nine congregational chapters, assemblies and synods of men and women. Maureen holds a PhD in management. more

Governance Training

The Governance Training Program emphasises the importance of integrating the Mission and Values of the organisation in understanding the roles and responsibilities of board members of religious organisations in the following areas:

Understanding the roles and responsibilities of a board of a religious organisation is only the first step in establishing a meaningful governance system.

Governance & Management has assisted many boards, several dioceses and state-wide religious organisations to develop governance policies for every level of their governance system. This policy development process involves all individuals and groups who hold some governance responsibilities.
